How To Choose and Qualify an SEO Company That Will Deliver You Results in Year 2020
Picture this – an SEO company coming to you telling you the reasons why your website is not gaining any traction online. They will criticize your layout, your content, and even how unfriendly it is to mobile users. You’ll feel bad at first but then they will rebound to tell you that they are what you need to turn this upside down. After a few months of hiring them, you notice that nothing changed. What changed? More expenses on your financials.
That, my friend, is what you call a scam. You have just been scammed by one of those SEO companies claiming to be saviors to your online doom. Even it’s hard to admit, you were tricked to believe that they will actually do the work that you expect them to.
But enough of the blame game or the pity party. Let’s go to what really matters in this situation – how do you choose a new SEO company? What do you look for?
Picking The Right SEO Company
First things first, you should be clear that you want to increase your Google rankings. Google rankings = more clicks, customers, clients. If you are nonexistent on the first page of the Search Results Page (or SERP), then don’t expect to increase your client base. Surely, even you would not go so far as the second page of the SERP if you’ve seen some credible and relevant websites on the first three slots.
Once you’ve settled that part, it’s time to pick the SEO company by knowing what you should look for. I can’t stress this enough. By knowing what you should look for, no one can trick you into hiring them. You’ll come up as nosy or keen, but hey, it’s money we’re talking about here. When it comes to picking the right SEO company, you don’t want to make the mistake of hiring someone who does not produce results. It’s easy to sales talk in this world, so be smart about who you get.
One of the things you should look for is their portfolio. Just like any artist or photographer, an SEO company’s portfolio will tell you how good they are and how fast they can deliver results. If you don’t like what you see in their portfolio, then they’re not worth investing in.
Breaking Down an SEO Company’s Portfolio
Companies can go all out on their portfolios. They can have a really nice layout that will instantly be so catchy for your Marketing team. They can also show a long list of their clients just to show they’re credible and popular.
On the other hand, you should know how to navigate through all the fluff they’ll put in their portfolio. Here are the top 3 things you should see in an SEO company’s portfolio.
It won’t be SEO if there are no keywords. Keywords are the most important ways to get your SEO up and running into the world of Google rankings. Take a look at the keywords they have chosen and determine if they are relevant to their client’s main business.
Just beside (usually) the keywords are the Google search rankings pertaining to the keywords. For example, the keyword “electrician in Houston” should be a relevant search phrase for the client. To know if it’s value-adding, the rank column should show where it is in the SERP. Is it on the first space of the first page? Is it on the second page? Is there no rank at all?
3. Start Date
And then you have the start date. The start date will tell you how many months ago the SEO company started using the keyword. If they have been doing this for a long time, yet their rankings aren’t on the first page, then it says something on the effectiveness of the company. Of course, you have to understand that landing the top spot on Google Search does not happen overnight. However, that doesn’t mean that you should use that reason to justify not being on the first page of the Google search.
Finally, their portfolio should provide proof. By proof I mean actual screenshots of the rankings. As a customer, you wouldn’t know how to validate the data they are showing about the results they got as an SEO company, so screenshots should be enough. They should be able to show that the keyword “electrician in Houston” is actually the 3rd in rankings.
For anyone who is new to SEO, here’s my advice – don’t be afraid about it. Sure, picking the right SEO company is daunting but that’s why I’m here. I’m here to help you if there are any questions about SEO and if you want your company to start utilizing it.
By now, you might be wondering who I am and why I talk a lot about SEO. Aside from the fact that I am the CEO of my own SEO company, I am confident that I am someone credible to give you the SEO results you want to receive.
A quick search in Google with the keywords “seo company in houston” will already show you that I know what I am talking about. You will see Johnny Chen SEO on the first page. You can also use the keyword “seo company” and there, you’ll see my company’s site again. Of course, this wouldn’t be possible if you aren’t using the Incognito mode or if your cache has not been cleared (so make sure that you go incognito!).
Once you click on our site, you’ll see that we’re not just saying empty words here. You will see our client base and how many keywords we’ve bumped from nowhere to the top. We’re very transparent here because we want our customers to know what we can do for them.
Again, if you have any questions about SEO, hit me up! Send me a message, e-mail me, or contact me through our site. You know where to find me, it’s just a Google search away.
